Q: Do you spend a lot of time trying to take photos for Instagram?
A: No! I try to focus my time on my blog rather than taking perfect photos, but the photography you see on Instagram does definitely have time invested in it. I try to take good photos and have done a little research to improve my photography which really helped! You can find all the tips and props I use, and everything I do to take high-quality Instagram pictures here.
Q: How often do you write and publish blog posts?
A: I feel bad because I try to stay on schedule and publish posts at a specific time but it’s often difficult to stick to. During school holidays I write at least every other day and can post around 1-3 times a week, depending on how many drafts I’ve started and how inspired I am. I’d love to be able to publish a blog post every week, though, and I hope that will be a reality at some point.
Q: Why do you blog?
A: Because it helps my mental health and gives me something to focus on and concentrate on, and it’s super fun. There’s always positivity and the blogging community is a really lovely place, and there are always things I can work towards and hope to achieve. It’s motivating and I get a lot out of it.
Q: What photo editing apps do you use?
A: For Instagram, I use Snapseed and VSCO to crop, highlight and edit all the photos so they look cohesive in my feed. For graphics on the blog and Pinterest, Canva is a definite winner and I also use VSCO if necessary.
Q: What’s your favourite thing about blogging?
A: It’s positive, motivating and a great way to share thoughts and feelings and get proper results. Plus, you can get what you want to say out there and really create an online persona for yourself, and there are so many little things that make it even better, like working with other bloggers and brands.
Q: How do you find inspiration to blog and continue writing?
A: The positive comments that I receive, being part of such an amazing community, and growing my blog and Instagram and helping others. Also, seeing what other bloggers do with their voice and their blog and seeing them do these great things!
Q: What’s your favourite thing to write about?
A: I like everything that I write about on my blog, but the easiest posts to write are travel and mental health related.
Q: How do you approach a brand you would like to potentially collaborate with?
A: I would say create a media kit (check Pinterest or my blog post) and then email them rather than direct messaging them, as it looks more professional and is more likely to be responded to. Be polite and courteous and also express why you want to work with them! Make sure you mention your audience and niche, and how it matches up with theirs; also, include what you could bring to their brand and how you want to promote or work with them. You can find out exactly how I approach brands here and get access to my influencing resources so you too can create a pitch that any company will accept! Finally, keep in mind that not every brand will say yes or even reply, but don’t persist or get disheartened, as it happens to everyone.
