Hashtags For Travel Bloggers: 100+ Free Hashtags To Grow Your Reach

IMG-7944

Below are a few photos I’ve recently taken and shared whilst travelling; it’s the perfect opportunity to explore the world and share your experience with others. Although I often share outfit posts and styled photos, there’s often raw photography of a view or photogenic village or just any holiday throwback shot. This post will incorporate hashtags for all different kinds of travel photo, a bonus section at the bottom for all you female travel bloggers AND also give a rough guide of the type of hashtags you should use on Instagram to get great engagement rates and skyrocket your following.

Hashtags To Explode Your Following

Hashtag Theology

You should use a range of hashtags in each post you use, and although I don’t have a strict plan that I use for each photo I share to Instagram, there is a basic plot. I post around 1-5 big hashtags (see below) that have millions of posts and will get you ten or fifteen likes within a couple of minutes, but as they’re so popular, they’re also too fast moving to get prolonged results. I then use 6-14 medium-sized hashtags, that have 500,000-1m posts and will get you likes that are a little less spammy than the bigger hashtags and will keep you trending for longer. Finally, I’ll use the remainder for smaller and focused hashtags (less than 500,000 posts), split into over 250,000 posts and under that. Here is the plan in numbers:

1-5:

Very Popular Hashtags (such as #photography, #blogger, #instastyle, #instagood)

ADVANTAGE: It will quickly get you at least ten likes plus a comment and maybe a follower.

DISADVANTAGE: Although will probably boost your like count quickly, but the accounts might not be within your target audience. Follows could be pointless as they might unfollow quickly, and could be spammy accounts.

6-14:

Popular Hashtags (such as #bloggerslife, #bloggerfashion, #darlingdaily, #abmlifeissweet)

ADVANTAGE: They should gain you a good number of likes, comments or follows (the bigger and more popular your account is, the higher the number).

DISADVANTAGE: The people who come across your content might not be interested and the hashtags might be a little spammy.

15-22:

Less Popular Hashtags (such as #bloggerbabe, #bloggerdiaries, #blogginggals)

ADVANTAGE: Interested people! I often find many bloggers find me through hashtags listed under this category, which is great.

DISADVANTAGE: Oddly enough, I don’t tend to get as many likes from this popularity, so maybe use a few less if you’re aiming for a lot of likes.

23-30:

Focused, Specific Hashtags (such as #londonblogger, #teenblog, #portlandblogger, #aroundthecorner, #femmetraveler)

ADVANTAGE: People are less likely to search those hashtags randomly, so it will be a lot more focused and the people who come across your photos will likely be interested in what you’re posting, meaning better engagement rates. Plus, you will have a good chance of being in the Top Posts section, which is always good.

DISADVANTAGE: They can sometimes feel a little pointless and not attract too many likes or comments.

Such an interesting post. Hashtags are such a blogging and social media basic, yet I’ve never really broken them down or thought too deeply about how I use them. Food for thought!
